STOP SOPA/PIPA

I believe in the power of free speech. As a writer, mother, wife, artist, neighbor, educator, student, and most especially, a citizen, I believe in my inalienable right to speak my mind, write my opinions, share with others and be free of censorship and fear.

But I also believe in my inalienable right to defend my work and my words. As a holder of copyrights, I deserve the ability to address and pursue violations of my works within our country’s legal system, to the fullest extent of the law.

But not these laws.

Passing SOPA or PIPA will destroy the Internet’s ability to support and foster innovation and the freedom of expression inherent in its structure. Read more from the Electronic Frontier Foundation about how these bills “are poorly constructed, overly broad and frankly thoughtless, the equivalent of dealing with burglars in someone’s home by carpetbombing every house on the street. You might stop the burglar, but the collateral damage makes it a hollow victory” (John Scalzi).

Digilutionary will be black this week in protest of these laws and the utter criminal ignorance of our congressional leaders.

Let them know what you believe in. Stand up and say no.
